Independent study courses are individually designed to meet specific needs of students. They may be in any subject area a student needs in order to complete degree requirements. The focus of this course is on creating a print publication from cover to cover. With an emphasis on hierarchy, grid, page sequence, and spreads, the publication integrates images, color, texture, and typography relative to the subject of the publication.

Upon completion of this course, the student will have a clear understanding of the four-color printing process and their role as graphic designer in the process. This course teaches students the core principles of Adobe Photoshop, the industry-standard raster-based photo manipulation program. While the concept of Interactive Design embodies a broad spectrum of techniques and methodologies, the scope of this class will be limited to those most prevalent for basic web design. Students will expand on their Prerequisite knowledge of Web Language I to gain proficiency in basic Javascript, related libraries such as jQuery, and additional CSS and HTML technologies. In keeping with this, students will learn a number of different relevant toolsets for developing interactive content, from code editors to graphical integrated development environments. By the end of this course, students will have built their own web applications, animations, widgets, advertisements and other interactive content for multiple platforms and devices through the use of HTML, CSS and Javascript. Who could foresee this pet project becoming a 500K-follower Instagram account? She wasn't even interested in design, let alone earning a living as a home content creator.

I have to admit, I don’t really mind suspending belief now and again for the sake of entertainment—but I thought it worked. I do understand this book is not everyone’s cup of tea, and I found many problems with it. This was a fun debut thriller with an intriguing premise. I’m always a sucker for an unreliable narrator, and Ana Reyes does such a good job with Maya’s point of view. The book isn’t compelling or believable as a thriller, but the author has potential in other directions. Ana Reyes is the New York Times bestselling author of Reese’s Book Club pick The House in the Pines.

Maya was a high school senior when her best friend, Aubrey, mysteriously dropped dead in front of the older man named Frank whom they’d been spending time with all summer. After the tragedy, Maya drowns herself in alcohol and drugs to numb the pain. At first, the story felt disjointed, and I wasn’t really sure what Maya’s father’s book had to do with the story at all.

I will say, unlike other thrillers, it doesn’t go on and on about that aspect but it’s still present throughout the novel so that did take away from the story a bit for me. While not a perfect story, there’s actually quite a bit of depth and I was so interested in where the story would go. I truly had no idea and just went along for the ride. Sometimes I think it’s more fun to be completely surprised by thrillers rather than guessing all the key reveals.

His suspicions seem like a result of his own psychological struggles. To me it read like a very sad story of a girl coming to terms with the fact that a creepy older guy took advantage of her. The book never really resolves it in any rational way. Maya recalls (not sure if in the past or present) that her mom (Brenda) met her dad and his family on a church trip to Guatemala.
